The main equipment used by the Ghostbusters is a <a href="http://www.gbfans.com/equipment/proton-pack/">Proton Pack</a>—an unlicensed nuclear accelerator which fires a proton stream from the handheld Neutrino Wand (aka Neutrona Wand or "Proton Gun").
